Cretan beaches

Crete beaches.
Crete's beaches have a high status, as almost everyone has a blue flag. This is a kind of quality certificate, which was established by the French in 1985. More than 60 countries are currently participating in the Blue Flag program. The leading organization is the Federation for Environmental Education, only it issues the Blue Flag, which is valid for only one year. Further, the resort shores again compete for the title of a clean beach.
The nature of Crete is quite diverse, so there is a place for every tourist. Moreover, almost all of the northern coastline is occupied by beaches. Let's start with the most famous one.
  Elafonisi beach.
To be honest, this is not a beach, but a mysterious island. The road to it lies along a sandy spit, in places submerged in water. This is an ideal holiday for families with children. After all, the beach is located inside the bay and the sea is calm.
  Elounda beach.
Located in an elite place where the "cream" of society: oligarchs, politicians and show business stars have a rest. The sandy coast, a good half of which is occupied by private apartments and luxury villas.
  Vai Beach.
The first thing that comes to mind is an exotic palm grove. It is said that these trees were introduced by Arab pirates back in the 13th century. But after a merciless fire in 2010, palm beaches can be counted on the fingers of one hand. The place attracts with fine sand and calm sea. The water temperature here does not drop below 20 degrees.
  Malia beach.
Mostly popular with young people. Here you can not only roll around with sausage, but also go surfing because of the strong enough wind.
   Amoudara beach.
Located close to the center of the island, the beach is 5 km long. Lots of bars, good infrastructure, accessibility. Towards the end of the beach, you can swim in the pool, enjoying the views of the sea and mountains. There are volleyball courts and places for swimming with children. Easy to reach both by car and public transport from Heraklion.
  Agia Pelagia beach.
A mesmerizing bay 25 km from Heraklion. The Turks called this place Tsanak port, as it reminded them of a plate. The narrow strip is lined with sun loungers and sometimes there is nowhere to throw your towel; the beach is also popular with the locals. They often fish on the left side, where you can also see sea urchins. The water shimmers in several shades. The place is suitable for water sports.
  Paliokastro beach.
Nice and cozy. Despite the pebble coast, rocky bottom and small space, it is customary to be here. On both sides, the beach is guarded by rocks, so there are practically no big waves here. Local children jump from a rocky mountain, competing with each other, who will choose a higher altitude. Good place for snorkelling.
